What is an Assistive Technology Assessment?
An assistive technology (AT) assessment is when a health professional works with an individual to understand their needs, preferences, and goals, and to explore which AT solutions might be most suitable for them.
At least 30% of assistive technology is abandoned when the wrong item is selected or there's not enough support after it's delivered. Having a knowledgeable professional involved can help ensure solutions fit well into an individual's daily life and truly meets their needs.
Based on the assistive technology assessment, a health professionals will recommend whether further support is needed to select the right AT solution.
For more complex or hard-to-fit solutions, health professionals may need to be closely involved in the trial process. Afterward, they will typically provide a report or prescription recommending the best option.
